A Census & Statistics Department survey has found that 41.2% of households considered the general conditions in sub-divided units as average.
Publishing the results of Thematic Household Survey Report No.57 today, the department said 30.7% of households were very satisfied or satisfied with the conditions, and 28% were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied.
The survey was conducted from June to November last year.
It showed there were 24,600 quarters with total of 86,400 sub-divided units in private domestic or composite buildings aged 25 years and above.
Each unit was sub-divided into 3.5 sub-divided units on average.
The average area of sub-divided units per capita was 5.7 square metres, their median monthly rental payment was $3,800, while their median rent to income ratio was 30.8%.
Over 90% of sub-divided units provided a fresh water supply, an independent toilet, windows or an independent electricity meter. But only 70% had a kitchen.
About half the households said they lived in the units for their affordability, while 37.5% said it was for commuting convenience.
